We ‘heart’ Shanghai.

Let’s be honest, Shanghai is a riveting place. It has captured our soul, grabbed us with both hands and it won’t let us go. It is teeming with life, pumping with an entrepreneurial spirit and buzzing with endless possibilities. Known as the Paris of the East, it has ‘pizazz’ that Paris could only dream of.

On Thursday 16th February we hosted a workshop on Creative Recruitment and Employer Branding in China at the uber-cool KEE ClubShanghai. It was a sold-out event, with companies like Louis Vuitton, Axa InsuranceHang Seng Bank, Standard Chartered and German companyVoith all coming along to be inspired by innovation in recruitment and talent acquisition.

We shared case studies and talked about our research on changing candidate behaviour, and that candidates are thinking and acting like customers. Just as customers will no longer tolerate poorly designed experiences, so too are candidates becoming disengaged and not tolerant of poorly designed candidate experiences.

They key take-away for the audience? Rip up your ‘recruitment process’ and start again. Think like a marketer, design and engineer an ‘experience’ and try to avoid the same old conventional approach of ‘post a job, receive CVs, screen, interview, offer’.

The content was provocative and certainly raised a healthy debate about the changing role of a recruiter, a recruitment function and the role of hiring managers in this new world.
